THE VILLA COMUNALE

IT IS THE GARDEN PAR EXCELLENCE OF TRANI. ONCE IT FOUND ITSELF OUTSIDE THE TOWN WALLS BUT TODAY IT IS FULLY INCORPORATED INTO THE NINETEENTH-CENTURY URBAN FABRIC OF MURAT DISTRICT. THE GARDEN IS ALMOST UNCHANGED IN THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL PLAN OF 1823. THE BOULEVARDS DESIGNED BY ARCHITECT FRANCESCO SALMINCI IN THE TWENTIES OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY HAVE BEEN PRESERVED THANKS TO THE CONSTANT AND UNINTERRUPTED WORK OF MAINTENANCE OF THE TOWN.

IN THE “VILLA” TWO TYPES OF GARDENS ARE MERGED: THE “ITALIAN STYLE”, WITH REGULAR AND SYMMETRICAL AVENUES, AND THE “ENGLISH STYLE” CHARACTERIZED BY PATHS THAT PASS THROUGH SMALL AREAS CONFORMATION APPARENTLY SPONTANEOUS, AS IN THE SO-CALLED ‘GROVE’.

Main Tree Species: Ilex, Pines, Palms and Box-trees. The flower beds are maintained by the major nurseries in the area.
